minä perhonen was founded in Tokyo in 1995 by designer Akira Minagawa. The name is Finnish — minä, “I”, and perhonen, “butterfly”. The house draws its own textiles by hand and realises them through custom dyeing, embroidery and weaving, which is why its fabrics feel like nothing else.

glass flower layers colour over colour until the flowers turn translucent, like light coming through painted glass. The textile was chosen in the hope that you’d carry your techo the way you’d carry a bouquet, and the Pink Mix leans soft and warm — pinks settling into one another with no hard edges anywhere. It’s printed on a cotton with a gentle, slightly brushed hand.

Sized for the A5 techo. The cover zips shut the whole way round, so nothing works loose in a bag, and inside there’s a cream yellow lining and two bookmarks, one green and one pink. The pen hook holds a pen by its clip, and the cow leather zip puller is a small good detail you’ll notice every time you open it.
